Ok…so as a mother of two VERY active little boys…I rarely get time outside of kid’s birthday parties and activities to hang out during the day! This past weekend, with my cousin in town, I was able to take full advantage of the day (sans the kids and the hubs)! She and I had a full day of girl time…brunch at Baba Yega (Houston Montrose area) and shopping at City Centre and party later that night. Here I am wearing one of my favorite DIY skirts…a railroad striped…button front…gathered skirt…
Super simple construction…I had about 2 yards of this railroad striped denim. I purchased the denim from Hancock Fabrics on sale. The best way for me to describe this skirt is to use the pattern of a gathered skirt…cutting three rectangles…adding a waist band. I created my own pattern for this one…
You can use the Kwik Sew (K3931) pattern by making the following alterations:
-Cut one waist band…your waist measurement + 4″.
-Cutting the width of the waistband about 6″ total width…3″ folded over (the one in this pattern looks about 3″total width). Since this is just going to be one waistband, you will omit the elastic in the back
-Instead of front pleats, add a few more inches the width (front and back) and gather instead of pleating
-Follow the rest of the instructions for the Kwik Sew pattern.
