Hello…and Happy Friday!
Houndstooth and this color…OMG! My dress was inspired by a Diane VonFurstenberg wrap dress worn by another blogger at stylepantry.com.
My obsession with this fabric was a serious one…and I had to do something special it. I found the fabric for $7.99/yard on fabricmartfabrics.com (I purchased 4 yards). The fabric is a double knit blend (only negative is that it snags easily). Oddly, I had been eyeballing the fabric before I finally decided to purchase it…not sure why?! Well, I am glad that I did…and here is the result.
I used Vogue 8379.
I made a few alterations to the pattern:
– I added 22″ to the bottom hem. I wanted to maintain the fullness of the skirt…so I had to cut on a larger flat surface.
-I added pockets to the side seam (ALWAYS!!!)
-I lined the bodice with a tissue-weight jersey knit (scrap fabric).
Hindsight, I should have purchased 6 yards. I had to do a lot of manipulation of this pattern to make it work. I also planned on 3/4″ sleeves but did not have enough fabric.
