Yesterday’s weather was so beautiful…and just the right weather for me to pull out my magenta high-low dress.
My inspiration was drawn from a dress worn by Victoria Beckham to the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William. (Her dress was a maternity dress…my dress is NOT!) I keep old magazine clips and inspirational photos on relevant styles…this particular silhouette was from her fall 2011 line. I love the timeless, comfortable silhouette. The high-low design is still my favorite silhouette…a little bit of leg in the front…and a lot of drama in the back.
My version was self-drafted. I designed it using only a few pieces to draft the pattern (front and back are one piece each cut on the fold). I made the drape of my dress a little more dramatic in the back and added side seam pockets (a necessity for me). The fabric is 100% wool in a light-medium weight and comfortable enough that I did not line it. Lastly, there are no zippers or buttons…the design is a pullover design.
