Sunday I attended the Houston Fashion Bloggers brunch. It was an opportunity for me to meet some lovely fellow fashion bloggers in and near my area. There are some phenomenal bloggers in Houston!
As the only DIY sewing fashion blogger in the group, I could not NOT wear something that I made! I chose this citron ponte knit top made with Simplicity pattern 1366 and a high waisted pencil skirt.
JACKET: Banana Republic HERE
TOP: DIY (used Simplicity 1366 View D)
SKIRT: DIY (used old skirt as a template)
EARRINGS: Charming Charlie (on sale $5.99 …YAY!!!)
The skirt was made using an old BCBG bandage skirt. I folded the old skirt in half. Layed the folded edge against the folded edge of the fabric. I traced the edges (adding about 1″ seam allowance to the edges. I wanted the skirt to hit slightly below the knee, so I extended the length of my existing skirt (and including 1 1/2″ for the hem). I added about 4 inches to the top and used a 2 inch elastic at the waist. The skirt is fully lined with a nude tricot lining.
I made some small adjustments to the top (Simplicity 1366 View D). The neck width was slightly wider than I had planned so I added a seam to the front and back of the top. I topstitched about 1/8″ from the seam line to give it some dimension.
The event took place at Cottonwood Restaurant located in the Independence Heights area of Houston. The restaurant has a very southern feel with outdoor and indoor seating options. It’s location is a few feet from an active railroad track and the movie theatre that I visited as a child.
There were mobile shopping vendors in the parking lot for us to check out…
Inside of the restaurant, Lonestar Jukebox set up a mini vintage apparel boutique. There was booth setup for you to design your own leather earrings, customize t-shirts, and collared shirt customization. This both was sponsored by Pop, Shop, America. There was a both setup for makeup and a blog picture taking tip session.
There were also door prizes given out..vintage Coach and Dooney and Burke bags…tickets to the upcoming Fashion Houston week and more. Unfortunately, I did not win this time!
Overall, I had a great time meeting fellow local bloggers. I look forward to the next event… and seeing them at upcoming Fashion Houston!
