This past weekend was QUITE an eventful one. I had activities every day…so there was ZERO time to sew anything. Nevertheless, with the change in weather, I was able to pull out my FAVORITE go-to dress.
My dress is EXTREMELY comfortable and versatile. I made it several years ago (about 7 or 8 years) and it continues to be a timeless favorite.
The dress pattern was self-drafted. I started by cutting the front and the back panels. After I created the main body, I decided that I need to add more interest in the back. I had this really cool sheer knit fabric to the back…to add some dimension and create some shape on a somewhat shapeless silhouette. I cut the center panel out…and layered the knit fabric.
High-low hems are my absolute favorite. I finished the hems and collar with self-binding. I used a ditch-stitch application to give it a very clean effect on the outside. The sleeves were very “angel” or “choir robe”…so I made pleats on the length of the arm. I added extra-long tabs to the sleeves with a button.
The fabric is a light-weight wool fabric. The dress is unlined.
