The year 2014 has been a fabulous one for me! For starters, in July of this year, I attended the Mimi G Sewing and Style conference in Los Angeles, CA. Feeling inspired, after attending the conference, I launched my blog for ReDpants Designs. Releasing my fears of judgement and criticism, I braved social media to put my obsession for fashion and sewing on display.
I must admit that I was SO nervous about starting my blog. A few times, I even considered quitting. For starters, I actually HATE taking pictures as I am usually the one who avoids the camera. Secondly, I was not fond of social media. Aside from my personal Facebook page for posting pics of my kids and family, hashtagging and tweeting were not in my vocabulary. Now, I have a Facebook page for ReDpants Designs, Instagram, Polyvore, Twitter…you name it! Finally, I was very nervous about people judging my work. I am extremely critical of my work and the thought of someone else judging my personal style…oh my! I won’t lie and say that I am no longer nervous about what publish each week. I just share what I love and hope that people like it and are inspired to either sew or shop for something similar. I am learning to openly accept any criticism as tips for improvement.
Overall, the blog has REALLY helped me prioritize my sewing and has given me a platform to share what I am most passionate about. I have gone back into my UFO (unfinished object) closet and finished projects that I have had for several years. I have shared some of my archives styled in new ways and even made a swimsuit for the first time. More importantly, I have completed more projects this year than any of my other 15 years of sewing! I have only shared about a third of what I actually made this year.
I look forward to sharing more in 2015. I foresee good things for ReDpants Designs in the near future! Thank you to those who have supported me…checked out my site, taken pictures for me, and encouraged me to start my blog. I am so grateful!!!
SEE YOU IN THE NEW YEAR!
