In preparation for my MAGIC meetings in Las Vegas this week, I had NO time to sew. I pulled out some archives for this trip to wear to one of my meetings.
The weeks leading up to my trip were so busy that I did not walk into my sewing room one time. MAGIC for me is usually filled with back to back meetings and little to no downtime. Between meetings with suppliers and clients, I am usually relegated to the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center or the hotel (this time it was the Wynn hotel). I thought that I was going to have a few seconds to take some pictures at MAGIC and around the Las Vegas strip…but honestly I left the hotel twice!(Nevertheless, I was able to test out my new remote control for my camera and take some snaps in my room.)
I chose to pack this outfit for the color. I am seriously obsessed with the color yellow now. You will see a LOT of yellow (in some version of the color) from me in future post!
Before kids, I spent a lot of time hunting vintage stores for great finds and inspiration. I was/am OBSESSED with all things vintage. I love to see how things were constructed before fancy machines and when people had to sew by hand. For this particular vest, I used the Truly Victorian pattern TV405 (HERE).
I altered the shape of the attached vest front and the collar and omitted the sleeves. The vest back and side panels were made with silk shantung fabric. The vest portion was made with a cotton textured fabric. The entire vest was interlined with horsehair canvas and the lined with the self fabric and a pop of silk dupioni. I even added the contrast silk dupioni to the under collars.
Beautiful insides are a must. I love knowing the inside of my clothes look just as nice as the outside. Here are some snapshots of the inside construction (below).
The skirt was self-drafted in the same fashion as an earlier post (HERE). I added buttons down the front band. I did not line the skirt.

Until next time…
You look great! I was thinking “where’d she buy that vest?” but I should have known you made it! What is MAGIC?
Hi Eryn!!! Thank you so much! MAGIC is a fashion retail (focused on apparel and footwear) trade show for buyers and vendors to meet. Brands show their latest and upcoming lines. I go twice a year for work… to meet with customers and see what new brands are out there.
The color is gorgeous and the construction is superb!!
Thank you so much Adrienne! I am so in love with yellow right now… so I had to pull this one out
Really like the photography from your hotel room…is that with the new camera?
Really nice outfit with a modern and vintage mix. Yellow is my favorite color! ! ! ! !
Your blogs make my day!
Tammy
Hi Tammy! Thank you! I was worried that I would not get the pictures right since it was my first time using the remote. I thought that Las Vegas would be the perfect backdrop for a modern vintage mix! Thank you!
Seriously cute! I’ll bet you turned every head as you walked by in that outfit!
Thank you so, Bobbi!!! I did receive a lot of compliments at the meeting! 🙂
I’m in love with that jacket. I like how you played with the colors and you did awesome with the lining. Lining is not a good friend of me but I’m still learning it. 🙂 .
Hi BiKe! Thank you so much! I usually start with my plans for my lining before the actual garment…
You really inspire me.
So sweet, Shay! Thank you so much! !!!
Love, love your outfit, and those shoes!!!!!!
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!
