As I mentioned in my last post…I just had my 20 year high school class reunion. For those of you that follow my Instagram site, you might have seen me post a picture wearing this outfit with my husband. I wanted to share the details for those sewers and those interested in finding similar ready-to-wear options.
I had less than one week to make two outfits for my reunion weekend. It took some time for me to figure out how I wanted to use my fabric choices. I had two fabrics options: 3 yards of a very stiff silk faille and 4 yards of a thick ponte knit. Both fabrics happened to be the perfect matching shade of mustard color. I wanted something simple without a lot of embellishments or design. My shoes and accessories were going to be the only embellishments!
I made the skirt using McCalls 6706. The stiff fabric (silk faille) made it extremely poofy and unflattering. Instead of following the pattern’s suggestions, I stitched down all of the pleats from the inside. Stitching the pleats flat gave it a cleaner, flatter, more figure flattering shape. The top was made using McCall’s M7163. This is an amazing pattern that could be remixed in so many ways.
I love coming up with an idea in my head and putting into Polyvore to see what it could actually look like with the accessories. I put together the following board to show what I planned in my head to pull the entire look together.

I love these shoes! The shoes, in my opinion, really made the simple patterns pop. I kept my accessories really clean but with a pop of color.
I would love to hear your feedback!
