I just celebrated my 20 year high school class reunion this past weekend. We had three days of mixing and mingling with classmates. Some of my former classmates that I had not seen since we crossed the stage to get our diplomas. It was an unforgettable weekend! Of course, I had several plans for what I was going to wear for each event…
My first was this white and snake print cotton mini skirt. The skirt was inspired by a Carven skirt that I found on farfetch.com. The Carven skirt’s original retail was over $700.00!!! I would never pay $700.00 for a skirt that I could make myself! I made my version of the skirt using Simplicity 1166. I purchased 6 yards of the white cotton (which I only used about 2 yards as I originally cut this as a long midi skirt). I paid less than $10.00 per yard for that fabric on sale. The snake print cotton was slightly pricey at about $18.00/yard purchased locally. I only bought one yard of the snake print. Including my notions, I spent less than $50.00 to make this skirt!

As I mentioned before, I originally cut the fabric in the full length of the original pattern. I decided to shorten the length of the skirt. I added the panels of snake print cotton fabric and the separating zipper (instead of buttons as per the pattern).
On to the shoes…
My shoes were designed and purchased from a customizable shoe site called Shoes of Prey (shoesofprey.com). This was my second pair of shoes from Shoes of Prey. I was so pleased with my first pair that I decided to try it again with this combination. The way that the site works is you select your silhouette (which they have several to choose from). Then you select your upper fabrics, your lining fabrics, and your sole colors. The quality of the shoes are amazing and they guarantee your shoes for 365 days. I highly recommend trying their site if you enjoy unique things. Plus, what could be more exciting than customizing your own shoes?! I will be wearing these with other outfits and getting another pair of customized shoes very soon!
Pictures from the 1st night of my high school class reunion…
For my class reunion event, I remixed the skirt with this long, fringed, cropped tee shirt by Alexis.
More on my reunion weekend and DIY looks from that weekend coming to the blog soon!
I would love to hear your feedback on this skirt and the shoes!
