For the ThReD and Needles August project, I decided to make two shirtdresses! The challenge was to create a shirtdress of your choice (woven or knit). You could use any pattern of your choice. It took a while for me to decide on the pattern to use…
I finally decided to use McCalls pattern M7084. I added about 21″ to the bottom hem (I had to play around to get the perfect length). If you checked out my off-the-rack shirtdress post HERE, I confessed that I had actually never made a shirtdress. Let’s just say that I was overly satisfied with this dress (and my recent post HERE) that I will be making more!!!
The lighting in some of the shaded areas where I took pictures does not really show the true color of the fabric. When I purchased the fabric, on sale, the color was called Muted Olive Green. Initially, I was not too sure about the color…but once the dress was completed, I fell in love! I think that this is the perfect shade of DESERT SAGE (one of PANTONE’S Fall 2015 colors (click HERE for details). I purchased 10 yards (and I used EVERY…SINGLE scrap of fabric). My fabric is actually sold out online. Here are some recommended suggestions for similar fabric and color HERE, HERE, and HERE.
The dress could be styled with or without a belt. I did not add belt loops (I hate when an unbelted dress has loose belt loops). The belt is also a DIY. I purchased the ribbon and belt buckle HERE at Joann’s Fabric. It sort of looks like a very expensive brand (not naming any names), right? The belt was REALLY simple.
I would love to hear your feedback!
(The next group project is going to be the WRAPDRESS. We will be posting details on September 30th. If you are interested in joining the Facebook group, please click HERE.)
