When Simplicity first released their SPRING 2016 patterns, I knew that this pattern was going to be one of my favorites!I made the jacket recently in a solid black ponte knit as a sorta “muslin”. It ended up being a wearable muslin for me. I loved it so much I wore it the next day to an out-of-town meeting and decided to make another. I had this navy scuba knit fabric that I wanted to take up a notch. I mixed it with a mustard scuba (from an earlier project), a dark green ponte knit (from a project I never completed, and a cream ponte knit. I also made a top with the left over fabric from a previous post HERE. I also did a pattern review on PatternReview.com…continue reading for that review.

HERE IS MY PATTERN REVIEW:
Boxy Jacket and Flared Pants
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The back zipper construction. Going forward, I will make it with an invisible zipper on the pants.
Scuba Knit + Ponte Knit
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Next time…I will add length to the leg length. I am only 5’7 and the pants were too short for me to wear with heels. I used a lace 1 1/2″ hem tape to make up the difference (I didn’t not measure before I cut !
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would recommend that if you use scuba fabric…that you line the pants. I will do this on my next pair! I used french seams on the jacket to give a cleaner inside. Also, I cut the pants in my normal size…and I am actually going to take these pants in slightly in the waist.
Overall, this is a great mix of boxy jacket with the flared pants.
