I will be the first to admit that I procrastinate when it comes to starting a new sewing project. One of my cousins invited me to a fashion show and luncheon where they would be honoring some of Houston’s top women in community service and leadership. This would have been the perfect opportunity to wear something new that I made. Nevertheless, between getting ready for my recent work trip and juggling family life, a new outfit was just not in the cards! So the next best thing was to pull out my FAVORITE oldie but goodie dress from my archives.
The Ankara fabric for the skirt portion was given to me by one of my former co-workers when she returned from a trip to Nigeria. I love using mixing fabrics and textures and thought that the blue denim-like rayon textured fabric (purchased from Stone Mountain Daughter) and the leather would be the perfect complement. (When I was a buyer for the Gap, the production team would give me the scraps of production fabric. I have stacks of this leather in my stash.) I made this oldie but goodie about 6 years ago for a wedding that were attending in California.
The dress was made with a self-draped top, the waistband from Simplicity 2281, and self-drafted skirt portion.
Now that I have shared one of my favorite oldies but goodies…what’s yours!?
