This past week and weekend my husband, family and very close family friends flew to Punta Cana to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. We had a great time hanging out at the Hardrock Resort. The hotel was a bit of a different vibe from where we usually vacation with a much more lively party scene. Overall the trip was relaxing and fun nonetheless. Prior to leaving, I had a laundry list of projects that I needed to complete to take with me. My polka dot dress was my main dress that I seriously did not finish until hours before getting on the plane! To top it off, I updated a hat with some of the fabric scraps.
Many bloggers have used this pattern, Vogue V9253. It has been on my list of to-dos as well. I decided to mix two patterns together to get this look. I used all of the pattern pieces from the top half of the dress pattern. For the skirt portion, I used Butterick B6203. I also added horsehair braid to the hemline for more body at the bottom. The fabric is from The Fabric Store. This fabric was mentioned as a recent fabric haul on my new YouTube Channel. (Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel…) It is called abstract spotted cotton and it is not sold online (you can contact the store for more information).
With the scrap fabric, I made some trimmings to update an inexpensive hat that I found at Walmart. I got a LOT of compliments on the dress and hat combination the night that I wore it to dinner. I would love to hear your thoughts.
